Miami (FL) vs Notre Dame Picks, Prediction, Odds, and Line Movement for Saturday November 7 2026
Miami survived a wild afternoon in Chapel Hill last weekend, beating North Carolina 38-35 to stay unbeaten. Late in the fourth quarter, Darian Mensah found Malachi Toney for a nine-yard touchdown to put the Hurricanes ahead by ten. North Carolina scored again, but Miami held on. Against Notre Dame on Saturday night, Mensah will not have that same receiver to turn toward when a drive gets tight.
Toney's high ankle injury has taken the nation's top-ranked Hurricanes into South Bend with a significant change to their offense. Notre Dame is 7-1 and favored by more than a touchdown at some sportsbooks. The Irish have defensive injuries of their own, and other Miami players have already shown they can finish drives. The question is how much harder that becomes when Notre Dame can allocate coverage without worrying about Toney.

Miami Hurricanes Preview
Mensah has put together an outstanding eight-game stretch: 2,425 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and just one interception. Against North Carolina he completed 22 of 29 attempts for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Those are impressive numbers, but the late-game tape tells us more about what he will miss. Toney scored twice in Chapel Hill, once on Miami's opening touchdown march and again late in the fourth quarter. He had become the dependable answer when space disappeared near the goal line.
He has 73 catches, 1,027 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns this season. There is no one-for-one replacement for that combination of volume, separation and red-zone trust. Miami can, though, change how it distributes the ball. Cooper Barkate caught a 40-yard pass during a hurry-up drive before halftime at North Carolina. Mark Fletcher Jr. scored on a 31-yard reception and later added short touchdown runs. None required Toney to beat a defender one-on-one.

Miami must run effectively on early downs. If Fletcher can gain four or five yards regularly, Notre Dame cannot sit in obvious passing looks and crowd the remaining receivers. An offense built around manageable third downs gives Mensah time to find Barkate or a tight end. If Miami keeps arriving at third-and-eight, the lost receiver will be felt more severely.
The Hurricanes also need a sharper defensive night. North Carolina produced 35 points and 341 passing yards from quarterback Bryce Edwards Jr. A repeat of those coverage breakdowns against CJ Carr would force Miami into the kind of fast-paced comeback offense that is harder to run without Toney.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Preview
Notre Dame beat Navy 35-13 last week and arrives with the steadier recent defensive result. Carr has thrown 18 touchdowns against one interception, while Jordan Faison has 38 receptions for 497 yards. Running back Nolan James Jr. has contributed 519 rushing yards and eight scores. That balance makes it difficult to build a defensive plan around eliminating one player.
Yet the Irish defense is not intact. Linebacker Drayk Bowen, safety Tae Johnson and cornerback DJ McKinney have been ruled out. Those are injuries at three different levels of the unit, and the consequences could show up most clearly when Miami changes formations or uses its backs in the passing game. Notre Dame may win the battle up front and still concede short completions that keep Mensah on the field.
The Irish would prefer to avoid that kind of possession-by-possession struggle. With Carr protecting the football and James supporting the run, Notre Dame can make Miami defend the full width of the field. Long drives also keep Mensah off the field.
Miami (FL) vs Notre Dame Odds and Line Movement
Notre Dame was favored by about 3.5 in early reports. The market later reached -5.5 to -6.5 before the Toney injury pushed Friday listings toward -7 and -7.5. Fanatics quoted Miami +7.5 at -115 on November 6. Some books offered only +7 or charged more for +7.5. The total sat around 54.5 to 55.5, below some earlier numbers in the upper 50s.
That extra half-point above seven changes the wager. A Notre Dame win by exactly one touchdown gives Miami +7.5 a cover, while +7 merely pushes. Toney's injury explains the movement, but Miami has other weapons and Notre Dame has defensive absences.
Miami (FL) vs Notre Dame Prediction and Best Bet
Notre Dame has the home advantage in late possessions. Carr is less likely to force a dangerous throw, and Miami's defense gave up too many easy completions at North Carolina. But the number has moved far enough that backing the Irish requires them to win by more than a touchdown. Mensah can still move the ball with Fletcher and Barkate, and the injuries in Notre Dame's back seven make a comfortable margin less certain.
Best Bet: Miami (FL) +7.5 (-115 at Fanatics, November 6 quote)
Take Miami +7.5 at -120 or a cheaper price. Do not quietly substitute +7 or accept a higher price. Toney's absence changes the way the Hurricanes score; it does not mean they cannot score. Notre Dame is the projected winner, but a six-point finish leaves the underdog inside the recommended spread.
Prediction: Notre Dame 30, Miami (FL) 24
