Washington Wizards Looking for a Better Response
Washington couldn't keep Atlanta off the scoreboard Wednesday. The 120-105 defeat ended a two-game winning run that included a 103-94 victory at Orlando and a 95-79 win over Charlotte. Earlier, Cleveland beat the Wizards 121-111, and Charlotte won 110-103. Washington has gone 2-3 across its last five games. The Wizards score 109.4 points per game and allow 109.0. The Wizards shoot 47.6% from the floor but only 30.2% from three.
Anthony Davis averages 23.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Trae Young adds 19.9 points and 10.0 assists. AJ Dybantsa has averaged 19.0 points in three appearances, while Kyshawn George has chipped in with 16.1 points and 4.4 assists per game. Washington grabs 41.0 rebounds and dishes out 24.7 assists a night. But the perimeter shooting is a problem. Young shoots 27.1% from deep, and the team hits just 9.1 threes per game.
Injuries: Reece Beekman, Tristan Vukcevic, Justin Champagnie and Jamir Watkins are out.

Atlanta Hawks Chasing Another Win
Atlanta got the better of Washington on Wednesday. A 120-105 road win gave the Hawks their second straight victory after beating Indiana 108-104. Not bad after the 121-99 loss at New Orleans. Atlanta also beat Cleveland 114-111 but lost 129-117 to Miami, leaving the Hawks with three wins in their last five games. The offense has produced 115.1 points per game, although opponents are averaging 113.0. Despite the recent road victories, Atlanta hasn't done much winning at State Farm Arena, with just a 1-2 home record heading into Friday.
Jalen Johnson's absence leaves a considerable hole in Atlanta's lineup. The forward averages 18.1 points, nine rebounds and 7.9 assists but is out with an ankle injury. Nickeil Alexander-Walker leads the scoring at 21.1 points per game, shooting 40.3% from three. CJ McCollum contributes 14.3 points, with Aaron Wiggins adding 13.8. Onyeka Okongwu has averages 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. The Hawks average 43.1 rebounds and 30.6 assists, making 15.0 threes per contest despite shooting 44.5% overall.
Injuries: Jalen Johnson, Jock Landale and Mouhamed Gueye are out. Henri Veesaar is out for the season. Asa Newell is a game-time decision.
Key To The Game
Washington needs to defend the arc. Atlanta makes 15.0 threes per game; the Wizards make 9.1. That's nearly six extra baskets from deep. The Hawks also generate 30.6 assists compared with Washington's 24.7. Young and Davis can keep the visitors close, but the Wizards cannot afford another night of chasing Atlanta's shooters.
Washington Wizards vs Atlanta Hawks Game Pick
- Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta already handled Washington once this week. Wednesday's 120-105 road victory gave the Hawks two straight wins, with Alexander-Walker averaging 21.1 points and Atlanta hitting 15.0 threes per game. Washington makes only 9.1. Jalen Johnson's ankle injury takes 7.9 assists and nine rebounds out of Atlanta's lineup, and the Hawks haven't been particularly convincing at home, going 1-2. Davis and Young can certainly cause problems, but after watching Atlanta pick apart Washington's defense Wednesday, I'm backing the Hawks to win again Friday.
Washington Wizards vs Atlanta Hawks Over/Under Pick
- Under
Washington's last three games tell an interesting story. The Wizards scored 95 against Charlotte, 103 against Orlando and 105 in Wednesday's 120-105 loss to Atlanta. Their season average sits at 109.4 points scored and 109.0 allowed. Atlanta averages 115.1, but Johnson's ankle injury removes a player contributing 18.1 points and 7.9 assists per game. That's a serious offensive loss. The Hawks shoot 44.5% overall, although their outside shooting remains dangerous. I expect a lower-scoring outcome in this rematch on Friday. Take the under.
